Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

The ubuntu AMD64 always freeze up after a long time run. So I moved all
applications to a old machine long time ago.

But today, I finally found out the reason. Today I want to copy a file
from another machine, the file is 15GB. I use gFtp. The machine freeze
up when I didn't do anything but watching. I reboot the machine and do
it again. And it freeze up again. Then after some try, I found the
system will freeze whenever the buffer exceed 4GB

free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 7999 4493 3505 0 16 4127
-/+ buffers/cache: 349 7649
Swap: 0 0 0

This is what I got before ubuntu freeze. And it also freeze when buffer
is using upper 4GB. I wrote a program to take 4GB memory. Then I want to
continue the transfer. But the machine freeze immediately.

And the machine freezed in the middle of transfering. The transfer rate is
52MB/s. When I reboot the machine after the last freeze, I found my network
card don't work any more. When I use
   ethtool eth1
it said " Speed: unknow Link detected: no". It doesn't work if I unplug and
plug the RJ45 connector. I have to fully power off the machine to restart the
network again.

This is very annoying. The buffer will use upper 4GB after a long time
run or some IO. And machine will freeze whenever this happens.
