Public bug reported:
Under Gutsy, I use the command (from root):
echo "2008-04-07 09:30:00" > /proc/acpi/alarm
to tell my PC to wake from sleep (suspend to RAM) at given date and
time, and it works flawlessy (under Feisty too).
Under Hardy, it doesn't at all. Some more testing showed that:
1) it's not a general sleep issue: computer doesn't wake up but I can wake it
up just pressing the power button
2) even trying to wait some time doesn't help: at least I verified the PC
doesn't wake up in the 2 hours before and in the 6 hours after the given
date/time
3) it seems not being /just/ a problem of the ACPI call: if I make the call
under Gutsy, then reboot in Hardy and put in sleep mode, it doesn't work, as if
Hardy inibits it
4) it seems being /also/ a problem of the ACPI call: if I make the call under
Hardy, then reboot in Gutsy and put in sleep mode, it doesn't work too.
5) in any case, the calls are registered: after a call, with "cat
/proc/acpi/alarm" I can regularly see the date/time I set, and I still can see
them if I reboot, if I stop the computer and restart it, if I reboot from Hardy
to Gutsy, if I reboot from Gutsy to Gutsy and if I reboot from Hardy to Hardy
too.
My computer is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1650G. In the past, it had problems with
sleep and fglrx drivers and it actually has some problems with sleep and b43 (I
think) drivers, but (to me) those seem to be unrelated, since as said above
wake from sleep never works, while sleep itself usually does.
All tests were done under an up-to-date (daily) Hardy.
Let me know if some more testing is needed. Anyway, I'll try to see how
it works on other computers.
I hope this is the right place where to file the bug.
