I upgraded to the latest kernel, and problem/crash is still there:

ii  linux-image-2.6.24-15-generic              2.6.24-15.26
          Linux kernel image for version 2.6.24 on x86/x86_64
ii  linux-image-generic                        2.6.24.15.17
          Generic Linux kernel image

dmesg doesn't shown anything at the time of the crash.

There is only some logging in the file Xorg.0.log.old after the reboot:

<-- snap -->
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Keyboard0" (type: KEYBOARD)
(--) Mouse0: PnP-detected protocol: "ExplorerPS/2"
(II) Mouse0: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
SetClientVersion: 0 9
SetGrabKeysState - disabled
SetGrabKeysState - enabled
SetGrabKeysState - disabled
SetGrabKeysState - enabled
<-- snap -->

Please note that lockup only happens when there is an PPP connection
using the Novatel Option UMTS/HSDPA card (PCMCIA).

btw, how can I add this bug to Hardy release view?
