Thanks for the response. I tried installing Suse 10.3 and printing does not function correctly under that operating system either.
There must be some change somewhere since the printer used to work when treated as a laserjet and that's what linuxprinting.org recommend. I now suspect CUPS or Ghostview or some sort of AppArmour interaction.. Mainly, this is the responsibility of Samsung since their printer driver installation does not function correctly.
