I have a similar problem,
My camera Canon a1 xh (an HDV) is not detected, it think i tried everything
humanly possible.
Since this device has been reported to work I suspect that this bug is related
to the builtin firewire controller.
After loading raw1394 (with camera attacted) module I only see following event:
