I have the exact same problem. At first I fixed it when installing
Gutsy. What I did was hit F6 and change the command by deleting the
word quiet. Then everything worked, but on reboot since the quiet was
present in the command to boot up, it stopped working. I then booted up
a live cd and deleted the word quiet from the /boot/grub/menu.1st and it
worked again. I then updated (and I think a new kernel was installed)
but I made sure to delete the word quiet from the new grub menu.
However, this time it did not fix it, and now it won't work. Any ideas?
