I am guessing that this will probably be fixed when AbiWord 2.6 gets uploaded, as I have used it successfully. Please test with the packages linked here and update this bug (and that one) if these packages fix the problem: http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/abiword/+bug/202174
