Adding the line:
<append key="info.capabilities" type="strlist">portable_audio_player</append>

to /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi

under the lines:
          <!-- T30 UMS firmware v1.7 -->
          <match key="@storage.originating_depvice:usb.product_id" int="0x1019">
 
fixed the problem partially.  Now, Gnome detects the player as a music player, 
and shows a little music player icon, then launches Rhythmbox automatically.  
But Rhythmbox does not detect the player!  However I can copy music to it 
directly from the desktop.
