I tried purging the xorg-server-fglrx package, but it couldn't remove /etc/ati. First, I removed the contents of /etc/ati, then I removed the following from the end of /etc/profile:
/etc/ati/ati-fglrx.sh # Do not modify - set by ATI FGLRX And, with that, I have XGL back, and I am happy :-) Assuming I can't work out how to, you can close this bug.
