Public bug reported:

- ubuntu-6.10-beta-dvd-i386
- text mode installer
- Dell D420 notebook

After working around #63619 (see my comments there), soon after, still
during "Install the base system", I get:

Warning: Failure trying to run: chroot /target dpkg --force-depends
--install var/cache/apt/archives/base-files_3.1.13ubuntu1_i386.deb
var/cache/apt/archives/base-passwd_3.6.11_i386.deb

'Continue' brings me back to the menu.

Below is a portion of the log file:

Most important, I think, is:

Oct 11 10:07:32 debootstrap: chroot:
Oct 11 10:07:32 debootstrap: cannot execute dpkg
Oct 11 10:07:32 debootstrap: : No such file or directory

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
