As far as I can see this is not a duplicate of bug #214538, since I got no 
errors in installing the plug-in, but confirmation that the plug-in was 
installed - but it did not work.
But for me - using the daily build of hardy-desktop-i386 and 
Wubi-8.04-beta-rev482 downloaded to-day Fri 11th April the fix made by John 
Vivirito above works!
I let the FireFox 3.0b5 install the flash plugin the first time it met a Flash 
object and it worked perfectly.
For information I include a file list of the /usr library before (jlj1.list) 
and after (jlj2.list) the flash plug-in installation.
I am new to this - but really amazed at how well this works!
(Well it appears that I am not allowed to upload attachments - and it is 
probably not necessesary).
