Sorry for the delay in updating. I had to add a couple of dbgsym's to
finally get a good backtrace. The key one ended up being
libgtk2.0-0-dbgsym.

It turns out that while the system is in this state, most programs that
use libgtk widgets will SIGSEGV in _gdk_keymap_key_is_modifier(), just
like metacity, including the apport gui and synaptic.

The program that best exhibits this is gnome-panel, which always
segfaults immediately. Metacity actually is a bad test case because it
doesn't always SIGSEGV in this state, for some unknown reason.

I have attached the backtrace and the apport .crash file for gnome-
panel, since I've had a hard time getting metacity to segfault again.
