The machine is a Thinkpad R40.

I have configured the network by manually editing /etc/network/interfaces (kde 
tools don't wpa properly).

The wireless does not come up automatically, I have to run "sudo ifup eth1". 
That's also a problem, it would be much better if it did configure itself 
when I press Fn-F5 which turns on the antenna, but I don't know what I'm 
missing for that to happen.

The problem ritght now is that when I close the laptop and reopen it (i.e., 
suspend/resume), the wireless interface is "up", but not "working". In other 
words, I cannot connect anywhere, but if I do "sudo ifdown eth1; sudo ifup 
eth1", it reconnects and works OK.
