An update to my last post... I restarted the PC and now the camera works fine in Ekiga. I have to use v4l (and not v4l2 which ubuntu seems to think is the default the first time I try using it). Cheese still does not detect the camera. In skype 2.0 I tested the camera and it produced a ghosting image with blue/green lines across the picture.
