Timo, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units your 7950 uses a G71, not a G70.
Sorry about taking so long to get a log file. I needed to reshuffle some hardware and find a spare drive so that I could create a non- working system again :-) A log file is attached. I installed from the Hardy Beta Alternate x86 disk. When X starts I do get a login screen, can type my name and password. Then the screen gets garbled--it got as far a putting a garbled heron onto the screen. Let me know what else I can do. BTW, I am typing this on a Hardy Beta system with the 7800GT, 3007WFP display, but the NVidia proprietary drivers. To get to that point I had to do an install with the 7600GS board, install the proprietary drivers, and then swap out the cards. ** Attachment added: "Xorg.log.0 that was generated with 7800GT, 3007WFP display at 2560x1600, and Hardy Beta Alternate X86, with standard (not proprietary) nv drivers" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13399926/Xorg.log.garbledheron -- Standard NV driver doesn't work with G70 cards at 2560x1600 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
