...and here is the rest.  The output of "iwlist scanning" looks
unhelpful... I just get between 1 and 7 hidden SSIDs.  But maybe that
means more to you.

I have attached a log demonstrating the following:
1. nm-applet displays the network (NYU-ROAM3) as encrypted (WEP)
2. I enter a single space as the key, and the applet attempts to connect, but 
never does.
3. I disable networking via the applet.
4. I re-enable networking, and the network appears unencrypted.
5. I connect successfully.
