Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

It's a long-winded title, but that's what seems to be happening.

X completely locks up when I drag an image from nautilus to the GIMP
toolbox, if I have an image open with multiple layers.

Steps to reproduce:
* create any new image in GIMP
* add a new layer
* browse to some image file in nautilus (any .png file seems to do it)
* drag the file to the GIMP toolbox

Expected result:
As far as I remember, this should simply open the file in GIMP as a separate
image.

Actual result:
X completely locks up. The only way to get response back is ALT-SYSRQ-R, then I
can CTRL-ALT-F1 to a terminal, or CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot. For most users it
would mean a hard reset.

I'm running up-to-date Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) on AMD64.
I have an nVidia 8800 GTS and am using the nvidia-glx-new restricted drivers.
Advanced desktop effects are enabled

gimp version is 2.4.5-1ubuntu2

I'm fairly certain this wasn't happening a couple weeks ago. I've been
running hardy and using GIMP regularly. I also experienced a lockup
today when opening a .png using right-click > open with GIMP (with
another .xcf already open), but I can consistently reproduce it with the
steps above.

I'd appreciate it if someone could try to reproduce the lockup.

I've investigated about as much as I have patience for right now :).
