Still doesn't work for me. I tried with your solution and it gave me exactly the same result. And I tried with the version 173.08 of the nvidia driver and I had a bad resolution, but for an reason I don't understand, the X log was full of "VESA" lines instead of "NVIDIA". As if the last beta driver wasn't even recognized.
