Same problem but...
I had a hard time trying to put X server to run and here's the
workaround that worked for me (UniChrome Pro IGP - VIA P4M800Pro - VIA
VT3314 on a Gateway laptop). I just manually included several
information in xorg.conf. Here's the clue:
First of all, save your xorg.conf file (even if it does not work!).
Run the gft command using Hsize, Vsize and Hsync informations of your
screen, in my case 1280x768 60Hz:
> gft 1280 768 60 -x
As result I got:
# 1280x768 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 47.70 kHz; pclk: 80.14 MHz
Modeline "1280x768_60.00" 80.14 1280 1344 1480 1680 768 769 772 795
-HSync +Vsync
Now, change "Device", "Monitor" and "Screen" Sections to look like:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "openchrome"
Option "DisableIRQ"
Option "EnableAGPDMA" "Off"
Option "SWcursor" "True"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
Vendorname "Generic LCD Display"
Modelname "LCD Panel 1024x768"
Horizsync 31.0-48.0
Vertrefresh 56.0-65.0
# 1280x768 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 47.70 kHz; pclk: 80.14 MHz
Modeline "1280x768_60.00" 80.14 1280 1344 1480 1680 768 769 772 795
-HSync +Vsync
Option "DPMS"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x768"
EndSubSection
EndSection
My xserver is working now. I hope It would help!
