hey

I experience the same problem on my ibm/lenovo X60 with ubuntu 7.10 ever since
I did the upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10.
Something" slows down or even interrupts the startup process of the X at the
time when the splash shows "gnome-volume-manager". Im note sure if the reason
is the gnome-volume-manager itself.

Doing a backtrace is rather difficult, if you don't know what (programm)
is causing the delay.

The delay is rather annoying because I have to wait for several services
which come at the end of the process of starting up X. For instance
"energie control", "network manager"...

I'm using this with the first user account on the system, going with
xfcewm4 as window manager. No problem with the account created for my
girlfriend some time later using the standard metacity window manager.

Logs - as far as I can see - don't show any errors.

Can you give me any ideas how to narrow down the responsible programm or
service and help you with this information to find a solution?
