Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initscripts

Hello, I was using/testing Hardy.

After todays (or yesterday's) update the system hanged when finishing
the install (last message was "configuring amarok, but I'm pretty sure
amarok is not the problem).

After a dirty reboot, I found my system unusable.

gdm didn't start.
I was able to switch to console mode using <ctrl>+<alt>+<f1> ...
... only to find out that my HOME directory didn't exist : I have /home on a
separate (xfs) partition, which is not mounted.
I discovered that I could not use sudo anymore (message "sudo: unable to
resolve host (none)".

I rebooted to recovery mode and mounted my unmounted file-systems. It
replayed the journal and unmounted it (i thought first that the init
process failed to replay the journal) but it didn't help.

Tell me what files you need me to attach, it will be a real adventure to
get them (no home directory to write temporary file, no sudo to mount
external device, and I forgot this : the network device is down, so no
network device either and while on recovery mode, I as unable to set the
root passord : something about a lock token).

Thanks for your help.
