Public bug reported:
Hello, Today I downloaded the ISO file of the Ubuntu Beta 8.04 desktop amd64
version and burned it on a CD
I rebooted the PC and booted using the install CD, It took me to the main boot
menu options with no problem...
There i selected the second option: i forgot exactly the name but it is the
"live ubuntu from CD"
i select this option in order to run the live desktop and run the Ubuntu
install from there (it worked that way for the Ubuntu 7.10)
after selecting this option, i press [enter] and i see the linux image loading
for a moment,
What i was expecting: is to see Ubuntu loading until the login/desktop screen
What i see: a couple of seconds after the linux image loads, a black screen
that occurs ...and remains for more than hour ...whilst the CD stops spinning
after 5 min
Note: If i select the first option to install straight away,
I get continuously an annoying firmware error messages that "cant be loaded"
and never takes me to the installation either
I use a Dell inspirion 1720 laptop, core2duo, 2GB ram, geforce 8600 mGT, Sata
HDD
Now i reformated entirely the HDD and installed Ubuntu 7.10 which works
perfectly !
But I hope this bug repport will help people here to fix it, avoiding bad
surprises to others on the final release
Regards
