Public bug reported:

There is no surround sound with my Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS if Sound
Preferences are set to Autodetect (default).

In Ubuntu 7.10 it worked great. I was able to the Volume Applet to up
the volume on the Surround (rear) speakers and I had full surround sound
as intended.

As of installing Ubuntu 8.04 beta (with all current updates as of this
post) I no longer have control of my rear sound. I have tried every
option in both the "Volume Applet 2.22.1" and the terminal app
"alsamixer v1.0.15". Both do not let me control my rear speaker volume
so there is NO surround sound.

I cannot chose the the package because it could be PulseAudio, the
Autodetect code, or maybe even the Audigy drivers.

***The fix (after trying many things) was to go into Sound Preferences
and set EVERY playback event to use Alsa. Setting these Events to
Autodetect (default), OSS, or the new PulseAudio gives me NO rear
speaker playback.
