I have this problem too... with just about any album or group with a Space in the name...
I ditched MySQL and 'removed' my comemction this way, then redeclared it. It rebuilt from scratch but duplicates are still there. All is on a local drive, ext3. I also note that amarok uses a lot more of processor than before, i'm not using equalisers, visualisation or moodbar...
