The problem with openvz that Karoly and I were reporting seems to be fixed with 
the patch at the bottom of this thread (it worked for both of us):

It should hit the git repository soon.

Speaking for myself, the compiled openvz kernel still doesn't have
sound.  With the debian kernel, everything worked fine.
