Problem appears to be resolved with 2.6.24-16 after upgrading ThinkPad T60 to latest bios revision, as boot errors before dropping to initrams seemed to indicate a PnP bios problem. Requires updating to latest Lenovo Update software and downloading BIOS patch in Windows.
