Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: itcl3-dev
Release: 8.04
Package: itcl3-dev
Version: 3.2.1-3.1
Programs using itcl fail with the error message
application-specific initialization failed: Can't find a usable itcl.tcl in the
following directories:
/usr/share/tcltk/itcl3.2
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../lib/itcl3.2
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../library
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../../library
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../../itcl/library
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../../../itcl/library
This probably means that Itcl/Tcl weren't installed properly.
If you know where the Itcl library directory was installed,
you can set the environment variable ITCL_LIBRARY to point
to the library directory.
The problem is that itcl.tcl is not installed in the location that itcl
expects to find it in. It is actually in /usr/lib/itcl3.2/ .
I discovered this testing the plplot tcl examples (package plplot-tcl-
dev). This bug is identical to Debian bug #349302 http://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=349302 and was fixed in Debian itcl3-dev
version 3.2.1-4. Ubuntu Hardy Heron currently contains version itcl3-dev
version 3.2.1-3.1.
