all but in fact a feature. Please check out

Essentially the idea is to "replace the existing PATA storage drivers in
the IDE subsystem with libata-pata drivers which expose the devices
through the SCSI subsystem, and migrate users to using mounting by UUID
to allow for changes in either direction." "This will eventually result
in us having to only cope with one "storage" subsystem and make our
lives somewhat simpler."

Let me know if that wiki page doesn't properly explain anything. In
regards to your USB issue, that is best filed as a separate bug. Bug
reports should be specific to only one specific issue. Thanks again for
