Public bug reported:
I am trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 desktop edition on a 160GB sata drive
on my PC. This sata drive already has a volume of size 80GB with NTFS
partitiion and some data on it. This volume is created using Windows XP.
I had left the remaining disk space on this disk (i.e around 80GB)
untouched, expecting that I can install Ubuntu in this remaining space.
Please also note that I have another old IDE harddisk of size 40GB on
which I have a single partition and has my Windows XP installed on it.
Now when I am trying to install Ubuntu, the partitioner shows me the two
harddisks and shows the only partition in the IDE HDD and the only
partition in the SATA HDD. However, I dont see any option of creating
another partition in the remaining free space on the SATA HDD. I only
get an option for 'New Partition table' which warns me that my old
partition and data in it will be lost. Since I didnt want to lose the
data in the partition in SATA HDD, I booted back into Windows XP and
created further volumes of size 20G, 27G and 25G in the remaining space
of the SATA HDD and formatted them with NTFS. I did this with the hope
that the Ubuntu partitioner may then recognize these extended volumes
and would then give me option to install Ubuntu in one of these volumes.
However, the partitioner doesnt show these volumes. It only shows one
volume and gives me option to either create new partition table or to
edit the one partition it shows me.
Is this a know bug and if so can you please help me in solving this
issue.
