I assumed this was just down to one of the five 500GB SATA drive not
having a partition table, i.e. it's fresh out the box and plugged in.

The "Unable to install GRUB in (hd0)" seems to be because attempting to
verify files were copied onto the disc correctly using grub's `dump'
command and cmp(1) fails. Could this be a drive mapping issue again? I
noticed
$ gi EDD syslog.0 syslog partman

for this motherboard.

> against grub about this, ideally including the output of 'sudo od -tx1
