Public bug reported: Binary package hint: debian-installer
On a recent netboot installation of Ubuntu 8.04 RC I noticed a number of pam related errors within the log file. Any time that users were created/edited there was an error unable to find a pam module. It appears that all of them were in regards to the pam_smbpass.so file. Attached is the entire log, but here is a sample of some of the file not found errors: MYSQL USER: Apr 21 15:40:18 groupadd[29832]: new group: name=mysql, GID=110 Apr 21 15:40:18 useradd[29835]: new user: name=mysql, UID=104, GID=110, home=/var/lib/mysql, shell=/bin/false Apr 21 15:40:19 chage[29836]: changed password expiry for mysql Apr 21 15:40:19 chfn[29837]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_smbpass.so) Apr 21 15:40:19 chfn[29837]: PAM [error: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] Apr 21 15:40:19 chfn[29837]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so Apr 21 15:40:19 chfn[29837]: changed user `mysql' information HPLIP USER: Apr 21 15:43:16 useradd[4878]: new user: name=hplip, UID=105, GID=7, home=/var/run/hplip, shell=/bin/false Apr 21 15:43:16 usermod[4879]: change user `hplip' password Apr 21 15:43:16 chage[4880]: changed password expiry for hplip Apr 21 15:43:16 chfn[4881]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_smbpass.so) Apr 21 15:43:16 chfn[4881]: PAM [error: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] Apr 21 15:43:16 chfn[4881]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so Apr 21 15:43:16 chfn[4881]: changed user `hplip' information Apr 21 15:43:16 gpasswd[4884]: add member hplip to group scanner by root AVAHI USER: Apr 21 15:43:57 groupadd[6338]: new group: name=avahi-autoipd, GID=114 Apr 21 15:43:57 useradd[6339]: new user: name=avahi-autoipd, UID=106, GID=114, home=/var/lib/avahi-autoipd, shell=/bin/false Apr 21 15:43:57 usermod[6340]: change user `avahi-autoipd' password Apr 21 15:43:57 chage[6341]: changed password expiry for avahi-autoipd Apr 21 15:43:57 chfn[6342]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_smbpass.so) Apr 21 15:43:57 chfn[6342]: PAM [error: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] Apr 21 15:43:57 chfn[6342]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so PULSE USER: Apr 21 15:44:53 useradd[8824]: new user: name=pulse, UID=109, GID=117, home=/var/run/pulse, shell=/bin/false Apr 21 15:44:53 usermod[8825]: change user `pulse' password Apr 21 15:44:53 chage[8826]: changed password expiry for pulse Apr 21 15:44:53 chfn[8827]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_smbpass.so) Apr 21 15:44:53 chfn[8827]: PAM [error: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] Apr 21 15:44:53 chfn[8827]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so Apr 21 15:44:53 chfn[8827]: changed user `pulse' information Apr 21 15:44:53 gpasswd[8829]: add member pulse to group audio by root Apr 21 21:44:53 in-target: Adding user pulse to group audio ** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [hardy RC] chfn unable to dlopen pam modules during installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220395 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
