Hi, the behavior and performance of collectd heavily depend on the plugins loaded. Can you provide your configuration, so that we can see which plugins were loaded? Please include the version of all packages the collectd package depends on, recommends or suggests, since the problem may well be in one of those libraries. Also, does disabling certain plugins prevent this load? You can find out by doing a "binary search", for example.
Also, writing RRD files is very IO intensive. Having a constant load of ~1 and nearly 100% IO-wait when writing RRD files for 100+ hosts is expected and perfectly normal. You don't do that, right?
