Thank you for this additional information.

I suspect the DCOP error comes from /usr/share/acpi-support/screenblank, which 
gets sourced/included by /etc/acpi/lid.sh (but it does not get called when 
opening the lid).
Can you verify that, e.g. by adding "echo 1" before and "echo 2" after the 
"dcop kdesktop KScreensaverIface lock" call therein?

Unfortunately, I cannot help more than recommending you to debug those scripts 
by inserting echo calls and other debugging code into /etc/acpi/lid.sh.
E.g., make sure that /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state, which gets checked at the 
top, is correct.

Additionally, videobtn.sh gets called, but I don't think it's related.
To be sure, try executing it manually and see if it does anything: "sudo
/etc/acpi/videobtn.sh"

You could also check, what happens if you temporarily remove the package
acpi-support, to be sure that it's not something else interfering here.
