I cannot tell whether the issue is the same, but the Ubuntu 8.04-beta as
well as -rc (both are desktop amd64 versions) keep crashing immediately
upon boot on an AMD64 system with 4GB of RAM here. Adding a mem= boot
option to restrict memory to 3GB helps (but cannot get passed to the
disk check nor the memtest, which crashes, too).

Ubuntu 7.10 as well as Knoppix 5.3 and some Debian 4 based VDR system
run fine on this very machine. Although all of them are 32bit versions,
the Ubuntu 8.04 CDs were the only 64bit software which I've tried so
far.

I'm following up here since no other report with the "panic" or
"kernelpanic" keywords seems to apply to what I'm experiencing.
