maybe it is hardware related (but could all be chance). the laptop is new to me, it came with 2x256MB. i swapped one of those for a new 1GB module. all the crashes (and the memchecks) where with the mixed ram.
yesterday i swapped back to the original memory, and have not had the crash or bag page message since. i have been running md5sum in a loop on 4 ISO files (ie bigger than RAM) for several hours, just to torture the ram. for each of, 2x256, 256+1024 and 1024 memcheck says the speed is: 132MHz CAS 2.5-3-3 so they seem to be the same speed ram. if mixing ram is the issue why would memcheck not pick it up? -- bad pages and lockups on thinkpad x31 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219978 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
