I am unable to reproduce this bug with gmail +firefox-3.0 in Hardy
Please try to get a strace or backtrace when you are able to reproduce this.
Please make sure you have the locales for fr installed in firefox-3.0
What version of java are you using? can you please attacha copy of your addons
in about:plugins
