Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dbus
#synce has seen an influx of hardy users with problems installing one of our packages. Restarting dbus fixed the problem for them. This was not needed with the gutsy version of the package, and so is likely a regression. According to our contact at Mandriva, dbus 1.1.20 had a bug which they had to patch for a while (before they moved to dbus 1.2.1, which is fixed). >From IRC: 11:32 < ParkerJone1> Hello all. Trying to install synce on ubuntu hardy following these instructions http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceWithUbuntu and ran into a problem. * Starting odccm odccm 11:32 < ParkerJone1> ** ERROR **: Failed to get bus name: Connection ":1.44" is not allowed to own the service "org.synce.odccm" due to security policies in the configuration file 11:32 < ParkerJone1> aborting... 11:32 < ParkerJone1> Any ideas? (Note that our package ships the correct config file so that this error doesn't occur) 12:21 < gdiepen[work]> Jc2k: I don't know anything about it, except for the fact that after restart of dbus, odccm could be started without a problem 12:32 < AdamW> Jc2k: we had to patch dbus for the above issue for a while 12:32 < AdamW> Jc2k: hold on, let me pull out the details 12:33 < AdamW> Jc2k: yeah, if you're on 1.1.20, it needs a patch 12:34 < AdamW> jc2k / gdiepen / parkerjones : likely needs this dbus patch : http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/packages/cooker/dbus/current/SOURCES/dbus-1.1.20-fixmonitor.patch?revision=190617&view=markup&pathrev=190617 12:35 < AdamW> it's fixed in upstream 1.2.1 (at least, maybe 1.2.0 too, I dunno, we went straight from 1.1.20 to 1.2.1) ** Affects: dbus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- dbus needs restarting needlessly (file monitoring broken?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221834 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
