I'm running hardy on a Samsung Q45 laptop, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/SamsungQ45Dalia I had to put in a "Virtual" stance into my xorg.conf to get multi-head working. Now when I start up with the external monitor connected, the width of the virtual desktop is set to the maximum even if the largest monitor does not cover it. The height is set correctly. If I start X without the external monitor, the virtual desktop is set to the size of the laptop display.
