Public bug reported:

I am sorry the description is not precise enough. I am still a complete
beginner!

I was using 7.10 and updated to 8.04 just now.
The laptop model is HP Pavilion dv6000 (dv6326us)

THe error started when I wanted to add a second screen (on 7.10). The display
crashed and it remained scrambled. When I changed the display using fn +f4 the
resolution was set to 1024x768 instead of the native 1280x800. The screen
resolution panel does not show my screen resolution.
I tried to find the right monitor in the screens and graphics tool but all
tests failed.
After installing 8.04 the problem remains.
However when I boot from cd the native resolution is detected.

The systems seems not to detect the screen's native resolution. There is a
scrambled image at the start and the resolution is set at 1024x768 instead of
1280x800
