Public bug reported:
The machine is a KDS Valiant 671XH laptop with the ALi5451 sound hardware (as
reported by lspci).
Original install was Gutsy, sound did not work, snd-ali5451 module missing from
lsmod, modprobe'd it but no joy. When trying to play an OGG file in Totem got
"device busy" error, aplay -l listed no sound cards.
After updating to Hardy LTS Totem appears to play the file with
visualization but no sound. ali5451 module still missing, modprobe'd it again
to no effect, still no sound cards listed by aplay -l. Bummer. Btw the sound
works in win2k and Knoppix 5.1 Live CD, so I'm pretty sure the hardware is ok.
