I'm sorry for the spotty responses...I'm just trying to remember how I was troubleshooting before.
I just recalled that one of the commands I was using to test before was: synclient -l When I execute this command I get this familiar response: "Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?" I do have SHMConfig set to "on" in the proper place within the xorg.conf. This has been verified repeatedly.
