I've just installed Hardy Final to my HD. The bug seems to be fixed in that release.
However, I used the alternate install CD with LILO rather than grub and no splash screen while booting so that's a slightly different setup than the live CD that I've used before (I understand that registers can be set on the card by the other drivers that display the splash etc.). I'll double check with the Final live CD if that would help you.
