" I've also found Ubuntu 7.04 (64-bit - not sure about 32-bit) to be very slow.
I've been running it on a brand new dual Xeon (quad core, E5310 1.6GHz) with 16GB RAM and 3ware 9560SE PCIe controller, 6 x SATA II disks in RAID 10 configuration. With no load, I get around 124MB/s write performance to an ext3 filesystem. Once I start loading the guests up, the disk write performance gets so bad that I'm virtually unable to copy anything to the host - sometimes down to 10MB/s. Nearly all the guests are reporting IDE/SCSI timeouts, and in severe cases, bus resets. I've tried to reproduce the problem on other boxes, and it appears that the more cores the box has, the worse the problem manifests. Maybe it's a problem with the Linux scheduler...
