I had this *exact* same problem. The reason is that Java has been
updated but OOo.org is not picking up the JRE (see bug 222803). Delete
$HOME/.openoffice.org2/user/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml which gets
recreated on the next startup and choose the JRE as described in bug
222803.
