I made this change (mine is /dev/scd0 on Kubuntu Hardy) and it makes Amarok's "Engage | Play Audio CD" work, but the change doesn't stick long; ejecting, loading a CD, choose "Play Audio Cd with amaroK" on the "Audio CD - KDE Daemon" pop up, and the problem recurs, because Amarok's setting has been reset to /dev/cdrom. I have edited the media.audio_cd.device entries in ~/xine and ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/xine-config, with no effect. When this happens, ps -ef shows a process whose command is "amarokapp --cdplay /dev/cdrom", which when run manually indeed has the effect of changing the setting.
