How did you start the app? Was it via the menu or command line? Did you run as a normal user or as root?
This is likely a duplicate of 198884. Is it okay if I mark it as such? On my system I edited the menu command to "gksudo wireshark" and the application became unresponsive (went grey) when I chose an interface.
