Once the new version is in intrepid, you can request a backport following the procedure detailed in:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports An update is a little more difficult, if you do have a patch ready that addresses the bugs it would tremendously help (note that for an SRU only major bugs should be addressed, ie. those that render the application unusable).
