OK, I found a fix. Instead of using network-manager, use wicd. You can find it at http://wicd.net. Follow their instructions to install, and MAKE SURE to put the startup item in your "Sessions" preferences (or it won't start up at login) and it should configure your driver to wext and then you'll be in business.
