Thanks for the update. The kernel is now using the libata subsystem
which should make your devices appear with the /dev/sd* syntax. You
also mentioned you are using LILO, whereas I believe Grub is the default
bootloader normally used for Ubuntu. Grub is also leveraging the use of
UUID's now so this may also be a factor:
