I do have a completely working Myth machine here without the overhead of gdm or window managers and it has been working this way for many years -- since 0.18 IIRC. Indeed. FWIW, I tie the green "power" button on my Hauppage PVR-250 remote with irexec to the starting and stopping of mythfrontend. Sort of a "last-resort" reset in case the front end gets wedged -- which has only ever happened due to Myth bugs, and only one in all of the time I've been using it in fact.
